EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR – Job Description

POSITION: Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director’s (ED) primary responsibilities are to develop and manage the PEI Crafts Council’s programs and events, secure grants and project funding, prepare and monitor budgets, and be a champion for craft through programs aimed towards assisting the growth of craft businesses on PEI.

Terms of Employment: Permanent, Part-Time or one year Full-Time term for IE Eligible candidates and then Part-Time permanent.

Salary Range: Part-time $22.00 / hour for 20 hours / week.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Administration: Develop on-going liaison with PEI Crafts Council membership and administer the membership program, recruit new members and manage databases for membership; Meet monthly with the Board of Directors – preparing agendas and meeting documents; Work with the Board to develop and maintain an annual strategic plan and budget; Serve as the Crafts Council’s chief administrative representative to culture organizations, including Atlantic Craft Alliance and Canadian Crafts Federation; Oversee the management of all funds consistent with the organization’s bookkeeping system; Manage the PEICC office and Gallery space in Charlottetown.

Project / Program Management: Manage core programs and operations; Manage professional membership programs; Develop and implement the annual Craft Education program: Identify and implement approved new programs that serve the craft makers community; Develop and maintain an aggressive fundraising strategy – search for opportunities – seek corporate sponsorships, and write project proposals; Manage website, social media presence and newsletters;

Event Coordination: Act as Events Coordinator for the PEICC Christmas Fair, the PEI Buyers’ Market, PEI Collection at ACTS, Market on the Plaza and other events; Develop and curate an annual members exhibition in the PEICC gallery and a larger scale biennial exhibition in a suitable gallery in PEI;

Advocacy: Develop and maintain effective relationships within the community and with local government, to ensure that the crafts and crafts related activities are represented and positively received; Deepen and refine all aspects of communications—from web and social media presence to external relations, with the goal of building awareness of the PEI Crafts Council and Council events; Maintain a working knowledge of significant industry developments and trends.

QUALIFICATIONS:

A minimum of three (3) years of work experience relevant to the position, and including experience such as event management, and program/project management. 

A degree from an accredited college/university or equivalent experience;

Excellent written and verbal communications skills, a persuasive and passionate communicator and a track record in soliciting and securing funding, including fundraising and grant-writing;

Experience and expertise in marketing and public relations, including website maintenance and social media; experience in event planning and execution; ability to be entrepreneurial and adaptable; action-oriented and self-directed; energetic and creative with a positive attitude and strong passion for craft and culture;

Ability to travel locally and throughout the province to attend meetings, with occasional other travel in Canada.  Vehicle required for local travel.
