Silkwalker Originals: Heather Walker
Island native, Heather Walker, creates silk art in the form or scarves, scenes and accessories. She feel very fortunate to be able to do what she loves and make it her home business, known as Silkwalker Originals. Living in beautiful North Rustico on the North Shore of PEI, she uses the striking images of the fishing village, its rolling hills and sandy beaches, as inspiration for her designs and colour combinations. She studied under internationally recognized silk artist, Daniel Jean-Baptiste, who resides and works out of Saint Lucia in the Caribbean and Markham, Ontario. You will see his influence in her silk works, where his “Shimmering Light Water Technique” combines with Heather's own painting style to create the illusion of light and movement.
Silk is a wonderful medium to work with, allowing dyes to flow gently over the surface, creating interesting designs and colour combinations. It has a soft sensuous hand, gentle drape and a beautiful sheen that radiates a true luminosity. Her hand-painted silk scarves are really pieces of wearable art. They are colourfast and hand washable.
Heather's work is available at the PEI Crafts Council Retail Gallery and other fine quality Island shops as well as at various craft fairs/shows throughout the year. She can be contacted:
