TEXTILES - Knitting/Crocheting
Red Island Knits: Angela McDiarmid
I have been knitting for over 40 years. My mother first taught me to knit, and my grade 6 teacher helped me to learn crocheting. From there I taught myself to read knitting and crochet patterns.
I focus mainly on using natural fibre yarns in my designs. Experimenting with colour combinations and textures is particularly interesting. I also enjoy incorporating beads and other materials into knitted projects. My inspiration comes from everyday things, like flowers, scenery around PEI, food in the grocery store, the ocean, and PEI red dirt.
I operate a small yarn shop at Spinnakers in Summerside in the summer. I love meeting other knitters and crocheters because we understand each other when it comes to needing more yarn in our stash, and having several projects in progress.
