We are having a PopUp in our new building (94 water street) next to the PEI Crafts Council Retail Gallery.  9 days of crafty artsy networking with friends and peers and the opportunity to showcase your work to the public and make some sales.

  • This is the future home of the PEICC studio workshop space and artisan studios.  We thought it would be fun to have an indoor popup in the new space and create some excitement for our new building.

  • We will not hold artists or products to our professional standards, but all items are to be hand crafted on PEI.  You do not have to be a member of the PEICC.  Everyone is welcome.

  • All artists are encouraged to be making/creating/working/networking during these days.

  • Artists will be allowed a table top display on a 6 foot table or a floor display of similar size.

  • Artists must bring their own 6 foot table.

  • We will provide chairs and Internet.

  • Cost to participate is $20 cash donation per day (9th day is free if doing all days).

  • Set up is in the morning between 10 and 10:30 am. If you are doing multiple days in a row you may leave your table set up.   Tear down is from 4:30 - 5:00 pm

  • Popup hours (operating the same as the PEICC Retail Gallery) 10 am - 5pm

  • This popup will attract downtown foot traffic only and artists should not be expecting fair like traffic.  Artists should bring something to work on while they are in the building. Or artists may set up a display for the public to view.

  • There will be no admission charged for the public to visit.

Saturday/Sunday September 14/15 - Day 2& 3 - Dynamic Landscapes

CALL for ENTRY - A New Definition of Home

A New Definition of Home - Call for Entry

Whether you are a new immigrant or your people have lived here for generations, we are all influenced by new places and new neighbours. How has your practice been affected by changes in your contacts? What new elements have you adopted or what traditional designs and methods have been replaced by elements of other cultures.

We are looking for adaptation or adoption, not cultural appropriation. The shift may be deliberate or subconscious. Look closely at your recent work as it compares to earlier pieces and deliver an exceptional piece that speaks of your craft tradition with a new twist … a personal artistic expression of craft that is influenced by culture whether new or traditional.

We are open to your interpretation of this theme, however it relates to the work you’ve done, and continue to do.

Craft items will be juried by a curator appointed by the PEICC for artistic integrity, originality and level of technique for their medium.  Production items will not be considered for this exhibit. All craft items submitted must be new works of craft and not exhibited previously.  The call for entry for this exhibit will be open to all craft makers from the island.  CARFAC fees will be paid to exhibitors.

Overview of three day glaze testing weekend workshop
This is a 3-day hands-on cone 6 electric glaze testing workshop which is designed to show students how to test a base recipe and get various colors.
On Friday we will be preparing test tiles with a base glaze and ten colorant variations. We will fire on Saturday in the cone 6 electric kiln and then on Sunday we will discuss the results when they are unloaded from the kiln.
The workshop will also be a general discussion/overview of ceramic glazes, focusing on cone 6 glazes, reduction and oxidation. We will discuss cones, kilns, firing dynamics and principles as well as applying those principles to various firing cycles. This will lead us into some basic classifications of glazes, like ash, celadon, temmoku, etc. It will be conducted in a casual question and answer format which will drive the content of the weekend.
Glazes will be discussed in a practical and easy to understand dialogue designed to help potters gain an understanding of glazes, firing and glazing. We will discuss how and why each type of glaze works and how you can achieve them, how to adjust your glazes and how to find new ones. We will discuss glazes from John’s new book: “The Complete Guide to Mid-Range Glazes: Glazing and Firing at cone 4 – 7” as well as his High Fire Book, but will go into more detail than the book allowed.
