Ukee Cruthu: Sarah Nicole Dart
I am from Vancouver Island and followed the ocean out east for a new adventure in Charlottetown PEI. I have been crafting greeting cards from dried flowers using a light sensitive Chemistry for over five years now. (But the seed was planted long before hand while visiting a great Family Run photography shop in Dublin Ireland called John Gunn’s. John sold me my first Cyanotype Chemistry back in 2009.)
There are endless ways to use the chemistry, but I like to leave it to nature by using found plants and feathers. The local flowers are laid out in wooden presses until dried, and pressed on top coated watercolour paper for the exposure. These exposure times vary depending on the intensity of the sun that day. I use this technique to create one of a kind greeting cards, book-marks, prints, and tote bags.
